I certainly never knew that a fruit was created by a dying or dead insect. Figs, apparently, are that fruit. In fact, they’re so much in line with wasps that some vegans will refuse to eat them due to the way the fruit starts out its life! More surprising, apparently most foods these days contain insects.
From How Stuff Works:
Even with the use of modern pest control, insects partially contaminate most agricultural products upon harvest and on the way to market. From canned corn to curry paste, from premium coffee to peanut butter, most foods contain insects.
I guess I know why figs are such a great source of protein now. Luckily for me, I never liked them anyway.
