Our seawalls: a turf war?

Man-made foreshores and seawall armouring are used to protect areas of human habitation. But when they are built, they replace the natural foreshore habitats of marine organisms and interrupt dynamic tidal flows.

How can we can manage our coasts in a way that can accommodate both humans and aquatic life?

  1. Man made structures are inevitable in this day and age, but hopefully more council’s across the state will adopt the use of environmentally friendly seawalls, promoting growth in habitats and biodiversity.
